MoMA Building Wallpaper Hanging

Some folks deem wallpaper to be passé but it has survived as an interior decorative accent since as early as 200 B.C. The Chinese painted birds, flowers and landscapes on rice paper. From there, the wallpaper industry has gone through significant changes in manufacturing and designs and continues to thrive. We were over-the-moon with this couple’s choice of a 3-D design for their MoMA home at 53 West 53rd Street, affectionately dubbed 53 West 53 to those in the know. It rises 82 stories in Midtown Manhattan.

The Paintworks team painted the entire condo before prepping this wall for a hand-painted silk wallpaper in varying shades of golden cream drifting into mystic beige. The phenomenal 3-dimensional abstract images range from rock clefts to birds to stalactites protruding horizontally in a Escher-style pattern. Everyone working here was incredibly impressed with the couple’s eye for drama on a wall, while keeping colors subtle and understated. This is sure to captivate everyone who steps into this room including the residents.
