There are many ways to add a stunning focal point to an outfit, the front of a house or an interior room. Being the proverbial heart of the home, the kitchen can be the most used, most visited, most popular room in any residence. In many such spaces, one looks around everywhere without really resting on one clever thing, then pivoting to take in the rest of the décor and function. Not so in this Chappaqua kitchen. The Town of New Castle along the Hudson River includes the enclave of Chappaqua, a Native Indian word for “a place where nothing is heard but the rustling of wind in the leaves.” The shorter version is “the rusting land.”

 Once on site, our crew removed and discarded the old backsplash, careful to protect everything around the space during the demo work. Once out of the way, we cleaned and installed new cement board before custom cutting these gorgeous tiles. The little hamlet of Chappaqua covers less than half a square mile and is embedded in the town of New Castle on the east bank of the Hudson River. We don’t know if George Washington ever slept here, but Horace Greeley lived here and one creative, local couple recently called us to renovate their kitchen. With a baby delivery on the horizon, the schedule was tight and the work was intense. Our first tasks were demolishing and hauling out the countertops, installing a new backsplash and prepping for a complete cabinet resurfacing.

Handling cupboard doors, hardware and drawer fronts in this substantial kitchen, including its island, is a labor-intensive undertaking. Our crew protects floors and anything else adjacent and takes seriously all the steps to prep and resurface kitchen cabinetry for a smooth luster and clean finish. Taking this kitchen from outdated yesteryear to new world luxury will mightily impress this new baby. Well, baby might not notice right away, but we think the parents will meet their new challenges with aplomb, grace and confidence for having such a stunning kitchen in which to warm the baby’s bottles.
