Upper West Side NYC Painting Contractor

The background color blue on the New York flag was adopted in 1901. The New York Knicks’ primary color is blue with contrasting orange, silver and white. It’s speculated that the Mets took blue and orange from the Dodgers and Giants, respectively, after those teams departed for California. There’s comfort in color, and we painted this lad’s bedroom a couple years ago to reflect his loyalty to the Knicks and the Mets. Then, like getting a song stuck in your head, for days, the family got a place stuck in their heads, for months – Westchester County was calling.

To prepare their Upper West Side Manhattan apartment for sale, we needed to patch and paint the bathroom because of a leak in the unit above. Our team scraped some flaking plaster and repainted the living spaces for a fresh, bright appearance to prospective buyers. The blue bedroom still looks great, a happy space for one sports fan, yet easily painted should the new owners not revel in the bright blue or, heaven forbid, bring in loyalties to other sports teams. Crown molding, panel millwork, white shutters, wood trim, fresh paint, stunning wood floors – we loved our project here for being in such grand quarters.

Refreshing Home Interior with New Paint

After half a decade in their home, this couple was ready for refreshing their interior with a lovely, neutral, gentle gray throughout living spaces and the kitchen area. Soft pewter evokes safety with touch of class and leaves the excitement level wide open for the decorative accents and textiles to make a splash. The fun part of bathrooms is being bold, and this Newburyport Blue HC-155 is part of the Historic Color Collection in Benjamin Moore’s paint line. Steeped in tradition, the color delivers a warm, elegant and confident tone in a small space.

Living in Long Island City along the East River is as peaceful as it is energizing. The serenity of the riverfront park beckons moments of reflection, while the art scene and trendy eateries, performance venues and a vibrant night life create engaging diversions. The view of Manhattan is dazzling, but these residents might be just as content at home in their own revitalized interior with take-out from Beebe’s or The Inkan or Chairman Sun.

Bathroom Repair, Prime and Paint

Years of high humidity coupled with poor ventilation in a small, confined space where the door is often closed can wreak havoc on ceiling and wall paint. Tack on a leak from the floor above, and you’ll find significant damage in the form of peeling, stains, mildew and bubbly paint or wallpaper. Things not only look rough, but also can compromise the ceiling and wall structure. Time for action with Paintworks on the scene.

Once the old stuff was removed and the ceiling and walls cleaned and permitted to dry, we plastered above our heads and on the walls, carrying on for two days of plaster, dry, tape, sand and plaster again. For a longer-lasting solution here, we then applied a deep stain-killing primer which protects the walls from inside as well as offers a smooth adherence of the paint coats. We know semi-gloss can highlight imperfections more than flat or matte paints, and that’s why we spent tedious hours smoothing our plaster job before priming and painting. The aha moment came as the top coat of semi-gloss paint dried. The Sunnyside neighborhood residents are delighted with the sleek new finish.

Wallpaper Removal and Plastering in Dobbs Ferry

Stepping into a jungle of a bathroom was a bit much for these homeowners, who called on us to move out the lions and tangled vegetation on the wallpaper for a smoother, calmer aura. Painting and lightening the dark oak wainscoting and shelves was part of the project as well.

We always begin jobs with protecting floors and surrounding fixtures and furnishings. Stripping wallpaper can be messy work, and there are several products on the market to assist with loosening the paper on the wall. Evaluating the kind of wallpaper, like vinyl or vinyl-coated, grass cloth, solid sheet or other, along with the age and time on the wall, provides the information we need to use the best product and tools for the job. Once all traces of the wallpaper are gone, there is often old glue that may require another product and some serious scraping to loosen and remove. Only then can the walls be washed, sanded and primed for the paint coats.

Painting over wood is another process in discovering what kind of oil, varnish or stain has been used and how to best deal with it to prepare the surface for paint. Sanding and priming takes place in stages before any paint is applied. Our team’s expertise kicks in early in the job, and the wow factor comes to light as the paint is smoothly applied on the trim and the walls, even in tight spaces like this. The new, radiant, neutral theme in this bathroom lends a much more tranquil spirit to the space, for which these homeowners are very grateful.

Gramercy Park Retrofit Full Bath to Powder Room

When our jobs extend beyond painting, we step right up to listen, understand, work and deliver what the homeowner specifies. Here we had a bathroom project which included removing a shower, walls and floor tiles at the outset. The homeowner wanted to convert a full bath into a half bath, while keeping the plumbing in place and shower body for reversing everything if a new owner wants to in the future.

Structo-Lite® Basecoat Plaster, a lightweight, insulated, basecoat gypsum plaster with thermal conductivity, was used to level the walls before installing new porcelain tiles. We installed and centered a new sink, plus mirror, lighting and toilet. It's now a modern, sleek little half-bath with light industrial undertones.
