A huge part of any project, especially painting and maybe even moreso spray painting, is preparation. Activating the nozzle and being experienced in operating the equipment is imperative, but frequently protecting the surrounding spaces is equally essential.

And we work in many large spaces, like this one. The volume of plastic, brown masking paper and tape can be considerable. Once we covered floors, windows and anything which was not to be painted, we expertly applied jet black paint to the ceilings and ductwork. It matches their corporate branding and interior furnishings.

Then we painted the walls all white to provide maximum natural light reflection and the perfect contemporary contrast. We are professional painters, wallpaper hangers and interior construction contractors on the move, but if we were office operatives, we’d like to work here. Mouse clicks, taps and swipes can spell convenience, but the customer showroom remains a huge draw for consumers who enjoy the entire shopping experience in person.

The company we recently painted for in Chelsea was moving its showroom into a new space and wanted it perfectly clean and freshly painted. White walls reflect natural daylight streaming in the windows, so their merchandise takes center stage visually. And then there’s the touchy-feely part where customers can inspect things from every angle, see the precise colors, feel the material, compare items and sizes for the best choice to enhance their personal style. Yet another benefit to shopping in person is having a knowledgeable sales staff to offer information, answer questions and, if asked, offer a potentially valuable opinion.

There’s always a starting point needing some serious attention.

IdeaPaint Walls

Leave it to a clever college freshman to invent IdeaPaint. In an entrepreneur group at Babson College, John Goscha tired of covering a wall with white paper, writing ideas all over it and having to remove it and put up new paper for more brainstorming. Necessity is the mother of invention, after all, and he deemed that they needed an easier way to manage the wall. Enter IdeaPaint, a premium dry erase paint in versions for residences, schools and commercial entities. Applying this novel product takes careful preparation and experience in properly sanding and priming before painting.

The office staff in one DUMBO business wanted to refresh their conference room walls with IdeaPaint so anyone with a flash of brilliance could share their idea on the wall. Everyone could see it and some major and minor brainstorming could ensue. Someone else could add thoughts and theories, flow charts, do some number crunching, draw happy faces and sketch out formulas for world peace. As the ideapaint.com website states: [IdeaPaint] transforms passive spaces into active environments. We were tempted to test it with a big “THANK YOU FOR HIRING PAINTWORKS”, but we refrained and left behind a very cool white wall for brainstorm sessions with their creative staff and meeting participants.

The Craft Studio has a presence in the Upper East Side and in Tribeca for classes and parties. Ombré may sound a little Spanish because the pronunciation is the same as “hombre” which is Spanish for man. But, actually, ombré in the world of color is from French for “shaded”. And a quick search uncovers many more references to ombré hair than walls. But here we carefully applied four colors in seven color stages from dark to light, top to bottom: crocus petal purple, amethyst cream, lily lavender, misty lilac. It’s a beautiful wall and enhances the fun, upbeat, party atmosphere immensely.
