Before French Wash on Walls

Manhattan Decorative Painter

We were contacted by an innovative homeowner who wanted to make his newly purchased apartment uniquely his own before moving in. His vision included the warm look of multi-grain wood and walls with a French Wash. Our Paintworks team installed the new floor and added a modern, flat profile baseboard finished with quarter-round shoe molding.

Walls are the largest expanse in any room, and here we used Benjamin Moore’s Nickel as the base coat and the company’s Smoke Gray for the top coat. The French Wash effect adds texture and depth with a soft marbleized appearance. To achieve this novel result, we used a large swath of muslin cloth working non-stop as the Smoke Gray paint was applied in random brush strokes followed by patting the wall quickly and expertly with the fabric. The outcome is a stunning, deep pewter, contemporary interior with an industrial flair where the homeowner can proudly host friends and relax himself.

Chelsea Manhattan Metal Door Spraying

Being trendy and contemporary in Manhattan's Chelsea neighborhood prompts property managers and homeowners to keep building exteriors and interiors in excellent condition. We were called to spray paint a metal entry door frame. Any metal paint job requires an in-depth knowledge of temperature, bonding components, kind and age of metal and condition. Covering and protecting surfaces around the door is imperative, along with the appropriate primer coat so the paint adheres well. The job was done with  electrostatic paint spray equipment, and the residents can be proud of stepping into the building through an attractive, freshly painted metal frame around the entry.

The finished living room! Complete with smooth walls and new baseboards!

When this couple called us they were about to purchase their dream home and were about 2 months away from having their first baby. This residence was in dire need of some serious wall fixing from floor to ceiling. The walls were splotchy with paint and damaged wallboard, and plaster was loose, chipped and falling out at the floor. The home was showing major wear and tear and needed a seriously make over. It was the kind of mess we at Paintworks & Decorating are trained and experienced to remedy.

We started by scraping all failing paint and plaster. Then we removed the old ragged baseboards. Once everything was fully scraped we applied bonding primer and began skim coating. After 3 coats of compound plaster we carefully sanded to make sure all walls and ceilings had a smooth even texture. We installed new baseboards and then painted everything with Benjamin Moore. This Manhattan historic apartment renovation was quite the challenge but looking at the home with furniture made it all worth it. The client is happy and we are grateful they trusted us to complete this project.
