Painting a Classic 6 Manhattan Apartment

Painting a Classic 6 Manhattan apartment imparts a sense of reverence for these captivating homes. Constructed in the 1915 to 1930 timeline in New York City’s growth, pre-war buildings are mostly mid-rise structures erected with high quality steel and fine masonry materials. Thus, they are a classic component of the city’s heritage. The number 6 refers to their six rooms, specifically, a living room, formal dining room, kitchen, two bedrooms and a maid’s small bedroom and bath, separate from the family’s full bathroom.

One new homeowner wanted everything freshly painted before moving in, and we addressed the specifics, which sometimes involves copies of our business license, insurance, special approvals, etc. The dining room was smoothly coated with Bar Harbor Beige, one of Benjamin Moore’s Classic Color Collection paints. The maid’s room and other spaces took on the paint Mayonnaise OC-85. Both neutrals framed with white satin painted trim offer a sophisticated presence for showcasing furnishings, fabrics and art pieces. Now the interior of this co-op apartment definitely exudes the refined stature of the entire building. New Homeowner Painter Manhattan

John Street runs from FDR Drive and the East River near the historic waterfront district to Water Street a block from the 9/11 Memorial and Museum. John Street Church, founded in 1766, is the oldest continuous Methodist congregation in the country. Financial district offices share this historical slice of the Big Apple with eateries, cool condos and a variety of businesses. The family leaving Brooklyn behind and relocating into the Financial District, affectionally dubbed FiDi, wanted everything in their new home to be fresh and beautiful.

There are rules and regulations for painting in many Manhattan buildings, and we are familiar with all of it, organizing paperwork, sharing our business license and qualifications as required. When we secure all the approval necessary, we get the key and tote in our drop cloths, tape and protective gear, paint, brushes, rollers, ladders, scaffolding, a few of those wood stick stirrers and do what we do best --- paint. The Simply White color by Benjamin Moore is a perennial fave for being clean and crisp evoking goodness, precision and peace. Welcome home, family!

Custom Stairwell Wainscoting

Beautiful Staircase, job well done

Custom NYC Carpentry

An elegant staircase creates an emotional vibe of sheer grace and grandeur. Wainscoting projects its own version of classic luxury. Renovating one very fine stairway with exceptionally handsome wainscoting results in an interior staircase which becomes enchanting simply to walk up or down. Here, we custom detailed 3-D paneling on the wall adjacent to this stairway.

We added the wood handrail for the safety of those heading down. Then we painted everything else before removing tape, paper, plastic and picking up paint cans, tools and equipment. The rewarding part of leaving one of our job sites is knowing we’ve vastly improved upon what we started with, and the sense of satisfaction in any professional job well-done feels pretty good. Our bonus is when the client feels pretty good about our work, too. That’s a win-win all around.

TriBeCa Interior Painting

Historic Manhattan Building Painter

Among the reasons to love living in New York City, according to cubesmart.com, are Excitement, Energy, Landmarks, Diversity and the Neighborhoods, each with its own distinct personality and flavor. TriBeCa is just one of those famed neighborhoods, known for its cobblestone streets and old industrial buildings renovated into lofts. One family here had not painted their home’s interior for more than a decade.

Longing for a fresh look which would lift their spirits and property value, they called on us to get the job done. These historic buildings sport gorgeous natural hardwood floors and wood trim, plus the homeowner’s furnishings, all of which we carefully covered and protected.  Most people know that TriBeCa stands for Triangle Below Canal [Street]. The shape of the place is really a quadrilateral, but that’s splitting hairs. It is a happy place to live, work and play, and this family is especially content in its freshly painted space with window trim framing the cityscape where they call home.

Washington Square Park enjoys a dramatic, storied history across five centuries. Once residential neighborhoods were constructed on three sides of the relatively small, but highly prized, 10-acre park, people from all walks of life craved living here. Less than a decade ago, park renovation included a new playground, small dog run, chess plaza, landscaping upgrades, new benches and lighting and repaved pathways. One couple contacted us for an entire condo painting assignment before merging their lives into the space.

The duplex interior sports a contemporary industrial feel, tempered with warm dark floors and newly painted, crisp white trim and walls. Of the updates to a living space, new paint trumps them all for the volume of surface it embraces and the mood it can project. Painting these walls came easy enough, with our constant attention to detail, but tackling the very tall stairwell was a bit more tricky. We were able to professionally finish everything, no matter the height, width or adjacent trim, windows, doors and floors. And now, there are two more satisfied Paintworks customers in the Big Apple, settling into their freshly painted abode.
