We recently painted the stairwell and hallways of a 3-story Brooklyn apartment building, which is sure to keep residents and tenants happy for having clean spaces to walk in on the way to their front doors. For this job, a semi-gloss paint was selected for being easy to wash, yet not have the glare of a full gloss paint. The semi-gloss will still reflect light, making the corridors and stairwell seem brighter and more pleasant. Semi-gloss paint also resists fading and humidity a little bit better than other choices. Addressing routine maintenance issues in a timely fashion makes good business sense, and keeping interior common walls fresh and clean contributes positively to low vacancy rates, good-natured residents and a favorable reputation for the building.

Refreshing Kitchen Cabinets in NYC

This client just moved into a new apartment and was looking for a way to brighten their kitchen. The cabinets were in great shape but the dark color wasn’t matching the new home vibe that they were looking for. We stepped in to paint the cabinets with Benjamin Moore White Dove semi-gloss to give the kitchen a quick makeover with minimal amount of disturbance for the client. The cabinets look brand new. It's a bird, it's a plane. No, it's a plant, it's a mineral, it's a paint color! Jade the plant and jade the mineral are known the world over for its rich shades of lush green. Here, among the historical buildings and hipster culture, one homeowner decided up raise the bar on kitchen renovation by having us at Paintworks & Decorating refinish the cabinet doors and drawer fronts in a jade green.

It's a balancing act of protecting adjacent rooms, appliances, furniture and other kitchen accoutrements while covering the old finish with the new bright jade green. We are experienced in removing all the kitchen cabinet doors to an off-site location for this triple application of a lacquer kind of paint, while carefully handling the cupboard infrastructure or webbing and drawer fronts in the home. All the hardware and drawer pulls also get taken off and stored during the process. We sand lightly between coats on everything being painted, and this special paint then dries to a hard surface, adding to its lustrous look and smooth touch.

West Village is the perfect place for jade kitchen cupboards for its eclectic style and multi-cultural population. Green is, after all, the most common color in the world for Mother Nature's presence, and what better way to bring a little of the outdoors inside? We thought the result was as stunning as some of the real estate prices in the neighborhood, but we also embrace the brilliant idea of protecting one's investment with a wild splash of jade green for refreshing a kitchen.

When the renters asked the apartment owner to paint a few walls the owner didn’t mind at all. Flash forward 3 years later as the renters prepare to move out and the apartment has pink and purple walls in the living room and a yellow bathroom! The owner was a little thrown off. Luckily with quality paint and skills we were about to cover all the bright colors giving the apartment a new refreshed look as the realtor prepared to put the property back on the market. We were in and out in 1 day giving very little downtime for the owner to find a new renter and not miss on much rental income. The popcorn ceiling has gone the way of dot matrix printers, landlines and fax machines for no longer being needed or especially appealing. The bright white attraction can easily be satiated with today's wonderfully-formulated ceiling paints, and the sleek look of a smooth surface over your head modernizes the proverbial loft, condo, house, lobby, work place and office space throughout all the boroughs of New York City. Popcorn ceilings are a little infamous for covering poor workmanship or sloppy installation, akin to heavy Hollandaise sauce on eggs Benedict when the yolks have already begun to drool. Additionally, they were touted for acoustical properties, but we can raise the bar on that by completely sealing your popcorn nuggets in plaster and then smoothing everything with a skim coat to a contemporary, lustrous finish.

The job we recently completed in a co-op condo building lobby and hallways involved adding skim coat plastering over the popcorn component. Sometimes when a popcorn ceiling has been painted over many times it is more cost effective and dust/mess reducing to skim coat over the popcorn ceiling. With a steady hand and smooth-sided trowel, the Paintworks & Decorating experts crafted a beautiful, unwrinkled ceiling surface. Not only does this smooth ceiling contribute to property value and interior aesthetics, but also it will be super easy to repair. One major drawback of the ol' popcorn ceiling is that it can never be repaired to look the same as the original. A patch job will always be evident, and water leaks from above as well as unintentional ceiling damage are all possible, even for ceilings on a top floor.  We enjoyed renovating and transforming the ceiling, and the residents now enter and move through a much more contemporary environment.
