 New owners of a luxury penthouse in Midtown East Manhattan recognized and appreciated the quality elements in wood paneling and wood floors, but envisioned a lighter, brighter home without wallpaper, medium wood tones on the walls and bookcases and dark wood floors. Thus, we stepped in to remove wallpaper, patch walls, sand, sand and sand some more before spray painting the fine millwork and refinishing the floors. We primed this gorgeous woodwork with many coats, sanding in between for the most smooth, lustrous finish.

 Farrow & Ball is a British manufacturer of fine paints which reflect historic color palettes, or in their version of English, “colour” palettes. Their New White paint is named for it being more warm than classic whites for its yellow base. It can take on creamy, chamois, ivory and sheep’s wool tones, reflecting light and creating an alluring interior environment. Spray painting such a luxury residence is not for the faint of heart or inexperienced paint contractor. The desired result comes only from extensive involvement in superior painting projects with the best equipment and most highly skilled tradesmen. Refinishing the floors to a lighter wood also revitalized the interior atmosphere. This is now a more striking 21st century penthouse where light plays off the walls, and an unrivaled warmth envelops the new residents.

 To stay on target for being customer-crazed, the Manhattan T-Mobile retail store is dedicated to delivering a clean, fresh, awesome experience for current customers and potential ones. Anyone stepping into this shop is welcomed with a cool, vibrant, freshly painted interior. As one might imagine, a retail phone store enjoys lots of traffic, along with lots of scuffs and normal wear and tear. We painted the walls and ceilings in one of Benjamin Moore’s Ultra Spec® Scuff-X® products. These paints are specifically designed and formulated for lobbies, retail spaces, offices and places which are accustomed to above average use. And we like to think professional painting adds a component of comfort in a high tech, cutting edge, retail setting for both customers and employees.

 Pre-war buildings in the Big Apple offer some of the most intriguing living spaces melding contemporary lifestyles with historical architecture. In the most general terms, these are mid-rise structures which created the first skyline for the city, 12-15 stories tall, built prior to World War II, mostly between 1915 and 1930. They have endured well due to their steel frames covered with masonry products, specifically bricks some three layers deep. Combine that with thick floors, and the insulating qualities are wonderful. The attraction to NYC residents never fades, and we get excited about jobs in pre-war co-op buildings.

 Some have stringent rules for contractors – insurance, proper licenses, worker’s comp and an EPA lead safe certificate to name a few. We are experienced and knowledgeable about their requirements, the paperwork and all the steps to ensure safety and conformance. This apartment embodied the old and new seamlessly with glass interior French doors and fine trim and molding everywhere – even crown molding on the fireplace mantle. The etymology of words and phrases can be quite an eye-opener. Years ago “elevation of meaning” applied to a word or phrase which once meant something different and lesser than it does in contemporary language. The word “guy”, for example, originally referred to a person with a strange appearance or dressed in rags, then it denoted men, and now it’s collectively any people. Likewise, the “pent” part of penthouse once was used for a shed or sloping roof from a main wall, like a lean-to on the side of a building. Around 1921, penthouse became associated with a dwelling place on the roof of a skyscraper, connoting luxury and style.

We are the NYC painters of luxury and style ~ and everything else ~ and when these penthouse owners left town, we carefully covered the floors in brown paper and draped the furniture for protection. The place had not been painted in years, evidenced by the fingerprints and smudges when natural daylight and sunshine streamed inside. So our team patched all the holes and cracks and let them dry and sanded everything smooth. We painted the walls in PPG Husky Grey, a soft, cool neutral with class and dignity. The freshly painted penthouse walls now sport nary a smudge and provide this urban nest with the interior lift it needed. Welcome home, folks!

The shape of the place is really a quadrilateral, but that’s splitting hairs. It is a happy place to live, work and play, and this family is especially content in its freshly painted space with window trim framing the cityscape where they call home.
